Meet the Docs

Meet the Docs is for Obstetrical patients to meet the team of physicians caring for you during delivery at Seton Southwest Hospital. Anesthesia, pediatrics and the Hill Country OBGYN physicians attend to give patients a chance to ask questions ahead of time. You do not have to be a patient of Hill Country or the pediatric practice to attend. We welcome all visitors whether currently pregnant or in preparation for when you are ready to start your family. Hope to see you there!

Meet the Docs is held at the Seton Southwest Hospital in the classroom on the first floor from 5:30-6:30 pm.

Childbirth, Breastfeeding & Infant Care Classes

Having a child is one of the most amazing experiences of your life. It is our desire to assist you in making the experience the best it can be. Our classes are short, sensible and no-nonsense.

We are thrilled to be a part of your childbirth experience. Educating yourself on the different elements of childbirth will ease your anxiety during the labor process, help you make informed care decisions and improve your ability to enjoy the wonderful experience of having a child. Educating yourself on the elements of infant care and breastfeeding will allow you to gain confidence in your new role of mother.

We are dedicated to improving the experience of childbirth through a realistic, practical and entertaining childbirth education program. Our classroom experiences are fun, interactive and informative. We firmly believe the time you spend in our classes will enhance your experience as a new parent.

Paula

Childbirth and Infant Care Instructor

Childbirth and Infant Care classes are taught by Paula Basden, a registered nurse with a BS degree in nursing from Baylor University and over 15 years experience in obstetrical nursing. She has worked in obstetrician offices, as a Lamaze instructor and as a Staff Nurse in hospitals. She is currently on staff in the labor and delivery unit at Seton Southwest where she assists patients in making their birth experience the best it can be. She also serves as the perinatal liaison for the unit. She has three boys of her own and remembers with fondness the miracle of their birth.

Kristine

Breastfeeding Instructor

Breastfeeding classes are taught by Kristine Kovach. Kristine has been a Board Certified Lactation Consultant in practice for over 10 years. She has been honored to work with thousands of breastfeeding families in and around Austin. Her classes are very well attended and were the subject of an article by Sarah Bird in the August 2008 issue of Texas Monthly. Kristine serves as the lactation consultant at Seton Southwest Hospital. When not helping Austin moms with breastfeeding, she enjoys attending her husband's band gigs and spending time with her son and daughter.

Preparing for Class

All classes will be held in the first floor classroom at Seton Southwest Hospital.

Our class environment will be fun and relaxed.

We recommend wearing comfortable clothes and shoes.
For Childbirth Classes, bring two pillows—one for mom to be and one for her coach.
We will be on the floor for some exercises, so bring a blanket if you prefer.

How to Register

Registration can be made at the office.
Classes will be held in the classroom on the first floor of Seton Southwest Hospital.
Childbirth classes are taught once a month on Sunday afternoons from 2pm until 8pm.
Breastfeeding classes are taught once a month 7pm until 9:30 pm.
Infant Care classes are taught once a month from 7pm until 9:30 pm.
You are welcome to bring a snack with you. The childbirth class has a dinner break of 30 minutes - it is a good idea to bring a sandwich for that time.

Childbirth $80
Breastfeeding $35
Infant Care $35

We advise that you register for classes early as classes fill up quickly.
Classes should be taken in the last three months (third trimester) of pregnancy.
Private Consultation is available upon request.
